Srinagar, Feb 23 (KNO): Mobile Iftaar points have picked up pace across Srinagar city in the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, with volunteers and community groups distributing meals at multiple locations ahead of Maghrib prayer. In areas like Lal Chowk, Nowhatta, Rajbagh, Bemina and Batamaloo, youth volunteers are seen offering dates, fruits, water bottles and packed meals to fasting commuters, daily wage earners, drivers and hospital attendants. The initiative, the volunteers say, aims to support those who are away from their homes at Iftiyar time and may not be able to arrange meals in time for breaking their fast. “We start distribution nearly an hour before sunset so that everyone on the road can break their fast peacefully,” said Sahil, a volunteer in Lal Chowk, while speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). "Ramadan teaches us to care for others and share what we have," he added. Another volunteer in Bemina said people are donating generously. "Many prefer to contribute food items, while others sponsor full meal packs," he said, adding that every day, the number of volunteers is increasing. Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude. “I work as a driver and often get stuck in traffic at Iftaar time. These meal points are a big relief for people like us,” said Gulzar Ahmad. Similar distribution drives were reported from other parts of the city and adjoining areas, reflecting the spirit of charity and compassion associated with the holy month. Residents said such initiatives highlight Kashmir’s tradition of community service during Ramadan, where people come together to ensure that no one goes hungry at sunset—(KNO)
